Research Activities

Post-Doctoral research

  • Worked on a European regional research project, where I adopted a coherent life-cycle thinking strategy to design a life-cycle model from biomass cultivation to the application of bio-based resin.
  • Developed an excel-based techno-economic assessment model to assess the life cycle costing of the project. This tool contains functions and templates to simplify the life cycle cost calculation of any product within a few clicks and serves a great potential to use as a pre-economic assessment tool.

Ph.D. Research

  • Identified textile wastewater treatment plant sustainability on a life-cycle basis using a sophisticated GaBi tool. The environmental hotspots in the operational phase of regionalised WWTP were assessed using the gate-to-gate with closed-loop recycling approach. The study emphasised seven unit operations of two different effluent streams, based on the CML-2001 baseline method, wherein the ozonation step was found to have high environmental footprints, in all the impact categories, due to substantial energy requirement, as the parametric analysis revealed that electricity was a prominent contributor towards the impacts followed by chemical consumption and transportation. Scenario/Sensitivity analyses with minimising effluent discharge limit and increasing reuse share were found to have a positive impact, as the system under the study could take the credit for the reused water.
  • Designed and developed Cu-doped ZnO nanoparticles by oxalate precipitation technique, whereas XRD, TEM, SEM, BET, and Raman spectroscopy successfully characterized the catalyst. The prepared catalyst was successfully applied to treat textile industry wastewater at the lab scale and pilot scale with a 100 L reactor volume.
  • Developed Advanced Fenton hybrid process for treating landfill leachate and estimated the system performance by statistical analysis to identify the interaction between the variables.
  • Designed and fabricated bioelectrochemical membrane sequential reactor with 10 L working volume for synchronous bioenergy extraction up to 10 W/m3 and sustainable wastewater treatment.

M.Tech. Research

A U G U S T 2 0 1 2 — J U L Y 2 0 1 4

  • Optimized Rhamnolipid bio-surfactant production from Pseudomonas Aeruginosa MTCC1688 in New Brunswick Fermenter with 5 L capacity and successfully implemented in oil, heavy and toxic metal recovery.
  • Applied provisional patent for novel bioreactor design for solid-state fermentation (Application Number: 1783/DE/2012).

B.E. Research

J A N U A R Y 2 0 1 1 — M A Y 2 0 1 1

  • Optimized bio-grease production from non-edible Karanja oilseed for automobile and engine applications.
